Meet Joan and Terry*
Joan (66) and Terry (70) raised their family in Mount Eliza, Victoria. For years the location suited them perfectly, but as grandchildren arrived, their priorities shifted. When their eldest daughter purchased a home in Geelong, Joan and Terry found the new distance made it harder to enjoy the family moments that mattered most.
There was plenty they still loved about their home. The couple had also recently taken out a Home Equity Release Loan with Inviva to renovate their kitchen. However, Joan and Terry wanted to play an active role in their grandchildren’s lives, leading them to rethink the place they called home.
It was around this time, Joan and Terry had friends move to Torquay. During a visit, Joan and Terry fell in love with the area and how much closer it was to family. It wasn't long before they spotted a home for sale that ticked all their boxes.

How Inviva helped
“Plans worked out better than we’d hoped. Not only because we got to move into a new home that suits our family as much as it suits us, but because we got to watch another family – just like ours but younger – move into our previous property with all the same goals Joan and I had when we first moved in.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a Home Equity Release Loan to pay out my existing home loan?
Yes. Many homeowners aged 55 and over use a Home Equity Release Loan to refinance and pay out their existing mortgage. With Inviva’s home equity release loans, you are not required to make regular monthly repayments and this can improve cash flow during retirement. Please note, the amount you can borrow is government regulated and based on the value of the property and the age of the youngest borrower. You must be able to pay out the existing loan with the new loan, as Inviva will take first mortgage on the property.
What are the benefits of refinancing my mortgage with a home equity release loan?
If you are unable to keep up with your monthly repayments on your existing home loan, for instance if you are retired and no longer have a regular income, or you need additional funds for other needs, then releasing equity from your home could be the answer. By refinancing to a reverse mortgage, there are no ongoing monthly repayments helping to reduce financial pressure, improve retirement cash flow, and allow you to stay in the home and community you love.
Will I still own my home?
Yes. You remain the owner of your home and continue living in it as your principal residence. The loan is secured against your property, but ownership stays with you.
Do you require legal and financial advice?
Inviva requires that you obtain independent legal advice before entering a loan contract, to ensure that you understand the contract, and your rights and obligations associated with it. It is your responsibility to pay for this legal advice.
We encourage all customers to obtain financial advice. In some circumstances, at our discretion, we may require that you do so.
